A beginner-level introduction to wine - intended for people who have little or no prior knowledge of wines. Very helpful for those who would like to start a wine career or pursue an interest in wine.
This qualification provides a sound but simple introduction to wines. The qualification will assist those who need a basic familiarity with the main types and styles of wines in the retail and hospitality sectors.
What you will learn:
- The main types and styles of wine
- Common wine grapes and their characteristics
- Key stages in grape growing and winemaking
- How to store and serve wine
- The principles of food and wine pairing
- How to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
- This course Includes 2 sessions (6 hours in total), and a 45-minute closed-book exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions

Examination
A closed-book examination that consists of 30 multiple-choice questions worth one mark each
Duration: 45 Minutes
Passing Grade: 70%
Language:
Teaching in Cantonese/English. All course materials and the exam will be in English in e-book format.
*If you wish to purchase the physical book (available in English and Chinese), there will be an extra $230 charge, paid to the education centre directly.

Monday: 7, 14, 21 Jul 2025, 7:30 - 10:30pm
Tuesday: 8, 15, 22 Jul 2025, 7:30 - 10:30pm

Course fee will include tuition, exam, materials, free gift* and total of 8 wine samples
*A bottle of selected wine (value up to $288) will be provided as free gift

Terms & Conditions
1. Restrictions on Application
Candidates applying must be 18 years old or over.
2. Application Payment & Allocation
All courses and examinations are subject to minimum student numbers. Pinewood Wine reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule courses and/or examinations if there is an insufficient number of students.
3. Cancellation of Application
After paying and enrolling for the course, unless it is Pinewood Wine's decision, cancellation is not accepted so no refund will be given.
4. Examination Arrangement
All applications will automatically be registered for a place on the examination date relating to that course. Any applicant who wishes to postpone or change their exam date must inform Pinewood Wine at least 10 working days before the exam date. Otherwise, candidate is responsible of paying exam resit fee of $800 as a resit fee.
Candidates requiring special examination conditions because of dyslexia or other medical reasons must submit their request at the time of their application to Pinewood Wine. Such requests must be supported by a doctor’s certificate or similar document.
